Course Title: Introduction to Business

Course Preview: This course provides an introduction to business operations. Topics include: the business system, legal forms of business, organization and management, business functions (production, marketing, finance, risk management, information systems, accounting) and the environments affecting business (the economy, labor, government regulation, social responsibility, law, international business, and technology). (3 Credit Hours)
Textbooks and Other Course Materials: 1: Business by Pride, Hughes, and Kapoor, published by Cengage Publishing, c 2008, 9th Edition either shrink-wrap or hard-back copy.
Learning Outcomes: 1: Understand the concepts, principles, and operation of the private enterprise.
2: Examine types of businesses that comprise the business scene.
3: Explain the role of business in promoting social responsibility and ethical behvaior.
4: Appreciate the increasing importance of information to business leaders today.
5: Understand the importance of small business to the economy.
6: Recognize the need for management in business organizations.
Evaluation Procedures: Your grade for this course is based on the following: 1. FOUR EXAMS: Each exam contains 50 TO 75 questions and covers three to four chapters in the text. Each exam counts 100 points. 2. ONE STOCK PROJECT that counts 100 points. 3. Short tests taken at the beginning of selected class periods. You will know when we will have a short test and you can earn up to 10 points per short test. THERE ARE A POSSIBLE 600 POINTS IN THIS COURSE.

D = 419-360
F = Below 360
