| Course Title: | Introduction to Experimental Techniques |
| Instructor: | |
| Course Preview: | Electrical Engineering fundamentals laboratory that stresses laboratory procedures; use of common laboratory equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, signal generators, and oscilloscopes to make circuit measurements. Students become familiar with simple DC resistor circuits, Ohm’s law, and AC signal analysis, including frequency, period, amplitude, and rms value. Students construct and analyze AC circuits that include capacitance, inductance, and resistance. Students learn the basics of laboratory report writing. Prerequisite: MATH 2412 or the equivalent. |
| Textbooks and Other Course Materials: | 1: EE 1102 Laboratory Manual – Introduction to Experimental Techniques, N. Dodge, University of Texas 2: Electronic Kit #147580 MK102 3: Electronic Kit #147571 MK103 |
| Learning Outcomes: | 1: The student will demonstrate basic experimental practices in an electrical circuit laboratory. 2: The student will demonstrate usage of a laboratory DC power supply. 3: The student will demonstrate usage of a multimeter, oscilloscope, and signal generator. 4: The student will clearly communicate research results in a written laboratory report. 5: The student will demonstrate knowledge of basic circuit assembly, and measurement techniques. |
| Evaluation Procedures: | Student performance in the course will be assessed through formal written laboratory reports that communicate research results. The reports are scored based on overall organization and appearance, presentation of diagrams and data tables, discussion of results, and summary conclusions.
Point ranges for each grade:
A = 90-100B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60-69 F = 0-59 |
| Attendance Policy: | Attendance of laboratory sessions is mandatory. Missed labs can only be made up through special consideration of the circumstances of the absence by the instructor. |
