Visions of Excellence

Visions of Excellence is a professional development program for new employees at Richland who teach as all or part of their full-time load. The requirement consists of a retreat, 7 District sessions (one at each of the colleges in the district) and 6 Richland sessions.

Purpose of Richland College VOE Workshops

  • Provide substantial resources to new faculty
  • Promote effective teaching practices in the classroom
  • Allow faculty to share ideas and concerns
  • Build relationships with each other and college resource areas.

Richland College Visions of Excellence Outcomes
New faculty who have completed the VOE Program at Richland College will…

  1. understand  Richland’s Mission, Vision, and Values
  2. feel welcomed into the Richland community
  3. be able to help students negotiate campus support services
  4. know about opportunities for professional development and employee expectations
  5. understand adult learning and use appropriate, engaging instructional methods
  6. use appropriate formative and summative assessment strategies
  7. promote sustainability across the curriculum
  8. use instructional technology appropriately
  9. provide feedback about the orientation experience

Richland Visions of Excellence

VOE at RLC I (“Welcome to Richland!”)

The topics for this session include: an overview of VOE workshops; Mission and Purpose of VOE workshops; the goals and policies of VOE; introduction to administration and organizational structure of RLC; an introduction to the Faculty Association and the Professional Support Staff Association; a master teacher session in which veteran member of the RLC faculty shares philosophy and practices.

VOE at RLC II (“Employee Development”)

The topics for this session include: an introduction to the Thunderwater Organizational Learning Institute (TOLI); exploring faculty expectations; an introduction to IAP/progress discussion; Meet a Dean; and a master teacher session in which veteran member of the RLC faculty shares philosophy and practices.

VOE at RLC III (“Campus Services”)

The topics for this session include: conversations with representatives from various campus services; an introduction to Wellness at Work; and a master teacher session in which veteran member of the RLC faculty shares philosophy and practices.

VOE at RLC IV (“Sustainability and Instructional Technology”)

The topics for this session include: an introduction to distance learning and e-Campus teaching approached; conversation with representative from LeCroy Center; and a master teacher session in which veteran member of the RLC faculty shares philosophy and practices.

VOE at RLC V (“Pursuit of Performance Excellence”)

The topics for this session include: a conversation around adult learning and the use of appropriate, engaging instructional methods and strategies; an introduction to formative and summative assessment strategies; and a master teacher session in which veteran member of the RLC faculty shares philosophy and practices.

VOE at RLC VI (“Celebrating Sustained Success”)

The topics for this session include: an introduction to sustainability across the curriculum and in the classroom; a discussion on committee work on the Richland campus; and a master teacher session in which veteran member of the RLC faculty shares philosophy and practices.
